The main difference is component count and structural complexity. A general equipment crate typically involves 3 to 6 component types; a crate for an AI server rack can involve more than 70.
The reason lies in the rack itself: heavy, with a high centre of gravity, housing precision computing modules. Such a crate must address bracing, the configuration of multiple cushioning materials including EPP and EPE, handling routes and disassembly sequence, while also accounting for component modularity, reusability and ease of handling for operators.
Q: Is 3D modelling always required before a crate is built?
Yes, whether the crate is made to a customer's drawings or designed by LIU HE from scratch. The purpose differs.
For OEM work, modelling is verification: the customer's drawings are rebuilt in 3D to confirm dimensions, interference, assembly sequence and on-site working clearance, so that any concerns are raised before cutting begins.
For original design, modelling is decision-making: the structure is planned around the equipment's dimensions, weight and centre of gravity, with load distribution and fixing points confirmed before production.
In both cases, an issue resolved on the drawing costs a few hours. Discovered on site, it costs time and production.
Q: Which wood packaging requires IPPC heat treatment?
Solid wood packaging material thicker than 6 mm must be treated to the ISPM 15 international standard for export and marked with the IPPC stamp.
Heat treatment (code HT) requires the wood core to reach 56°C or above and hold for at least 30 minutes.
Plywood, OSB, particleboard and other wood-based materials produced through gluing or high heat and pressure, along with solid wood under 6 mm, are exempt.
Non-compliant wood packaging may be subject to treatment, re-export or destruction at the destination port.
LIU HE operates its own heat treatment chamber, approved by Taiwan's plant quarantine authority. Treatment and marking are completed in-house, without sending material out.
Q: Can crates be made to our existing packaging drawings or specifications?
Yes. LIU HE provides OEM crating, built to the drawings, material specifications and working standards supplied by the customer.
On receiving drawings, we rebuild them in 3D to check dimensions, interference, assembly sequence and on-site working clearance. Any concerns are raised for discussion before cutting begins.
Where specific materials, hardware or suppliers are designated, we work to those specifications. Where the specification does not cover a detail, we propose an approach and confirm it before proceeding.
On documentation, timber specifications, hardware material property reports, SGS testing and RoHS compliance statements are all available, covering the records typically required for supplier qualification.
We do not alter an approved design. We find the problems before production.
Q: How is moisture handled for precision equipment?
Protection is tiered according to the equipment's sensitivity and the length of the journey.
The baseline is an aluminium foil moisture barrier bag with desiccant, with desiccant quantity calculated from internal volume and transit time.
For equipment more sensitive to humidity, vacuum packaging can be used, evacuating air from the bag before sealing. Vacuum bags are also available in anti-static form for electrostatic-sensitive electronics, and in fully transparent form, allowing customs inspection by sight without breaking the vacuum seal.
Moisture protection is planned during structural design, integrated with bracing and cushioning, rather than added after the crate is built.
Q: What information is needed for a quotation?
Equipment dimensions (length, width, height in mm), weight, quantity, destination, and any special requirements.
Special requirements include stacking limits, lifting point locations, disassembly sequence, shock or moisture protection level, and any existing packaging specification your company works to.
